Objectives: The objective of this study is to identify the structural relationship among parental attachment, career attitude maturity, self-differentiation, and career decision-making self-efficacy of college students.
Methods: For this purpose, a survey was conducted from March 9th to April 2nd, 2019 on college students from four universities in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province, and North Chungcheong Province. A total of 255 questionnaires was analyzed, and for statistical analysis, the SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used.
Results: The results of the study are as follows: First, the direct effects from parental attachment to self-differentiation, from self-differentiation to career decision-making self-efficacy, and from career decision-making self-efficacy to career attitude maturity are all statistically significant. Second, the indirect effect from parental attachment to career attitude maturity through the sequential mediation of self-differentiation and career decision-making self-efficacy is well identified.
Conclusions: The results suggests that it is important for career counselors to help college students look back on their parental attachment, differentiate themselves from their family, and improve their career decision-making self-efficacy consecutively so that they have a high level of career attitude maturity.
